What a great day of rugby: Alte Preußen hosted the Caen Vets and Stadium RFC!
„Die Alten Preußen” were keen to deliver — but the French soon tore more holes in our defensive line than we could fill with the mud-hole tackles we had planned. AP seemed more sedated than the tourists from Normandy, who played at a different standard — and with some surprising ages on the wing.
Our youngster Cem played his third rugby match ever, earning helmet honours for helping stop the Vétérans Caennaise in the second half — at least limiting the disaster.
It was an honour to play with John from Arizona, who originally played with Stadium RFC in West Berlin in the early 1980s — rejoining our pack45 years later!
“Die Alten Preußen” veterans were established in 1994, when most Allied Forces had already left Berlin. The Berlin Wall era marks a unique chapter in rugby history: BSV92 regularly faced Stadium RFC at Maifeld, as well as ACCSB at Quartier Napoléon, and the Royal Air Force team in Gatow. Many of these military teams joined the regional Northeast Division in the early ’90s, even playing in Leipzig.
After this historic reunion with John, the last active player of Stadium RFC, AP are now back to business, looking forward to our “Heini Cup” on 27/09/2025 — happily catered once again by ISIGÜL. 😋
While most of the rugby world’s attention was focused on the Autumn series in Europe, the tourists took the opportunity to invade Chile at the Pacific near Valparaíso, albeit rather sleepily, losing 1-3 vs. Old Mackayons.
Back in Argentina, Preußen marched to a fantastic 3-2 victory vs. Pura Malta XV to match Ireland’s hard-fought win over „Los Pumas“ in Dublin. This match at the Atlantic had all the makings of a veterans classic of 3×20 min pulsating action.
After the game, we enjoyed the best ever third half in the grassroots of Argentina Rugby with our friends of Comercial Rugby Club near Mar del Plata the capital of the region Buenos Aires.
„Los Prusianos“ finished by winning with a solid 2-0 in Montevideo vs. Old Habourians XV.

Auf nach Hamburg machten sich am 1. Mai die Oldies des BSV92. Wir folgten der Einladung von Old Boys Hamburg als Spielgemeinschaft mit Velten, Potsdam und einem Sportfreund von RK03.
In grünen Trikots gelang der Start ins Turnier recht gut mit einem Sieg gegen die Hamburger. Gegen Bremen wurde es schon etwas schwieriger. Trotz großen Kampfes ging dieses Spiel verloren. Ich selbst musste nach einem gemeinen Bären-Tackle eines Bremers mit kaputter Schulter raus. Im nächsten Spiel im strömenden Regen unterlagen wir Hannover deutlich. In der letzten Begegnung trafen wir auf RU Hohen-Neuendorf. Trotz geschickter Einkäufe des Veltener Tour-Managers war kein weiterer Sieg drin. Im Anschluss gab es Party. Am Sonntag 29.03.2015 war es endlich so weit, die Saison bei den Oldies ist gestartet. Bedingt durch die lange Wintertrainingspause wird diesem Moment – wie in jedem Jahr – spannend entgegengefiebert. Die Bedingungen waren für einen Märztag gut, es regnete nicht. Auch wurde unser Team durch einige Kameraden vom BRS und USV Potsdam kameradschaftlich unterstützt. mehr…
Unsere Oldies waren wieder auf Tour! Gemeinsam mit Kameraden aus Berlin und Brandenburg hob in den Mittagsstunden am 1. Mai unser Flieger in Richtung Balkan ab.
Unser Ziel: Budapest, die Perle an der Donau.
Und diese Stadt ist wirklicher sehr lebendig und toll. „Budaer“ bedeutet in der Landessprache „ Burg“, und diese ist weithin sichtbar. Eine der schönsten Aussichtspunkte im historischen Viertels. Barockhäuser römische Steine, schön geschnitzte Sitzkabinen, die an die Ritterzeit erinnern. Toll ist auch die 700 jährige Matthiaskirche auf dem Dreifaltigkeitsplatz. Der gotische Turm der Matthiaskirche mit der Fischerbastei begeisterte uns. Aber auch Kettenbrücke oder das ungarische Parlament, der Gresham Palast und sie St. Stephan Basilika sind hübsch anzusehen. mehr…
Bei launischem Novemberwetter fand das letzte Spiel der Oldies in der Saison 2013 am 16.11. in Velten statt.
Gekämpft wurde, wie in jedem Jahr, um den „begehrten“ Grünspancup. In Summe folgten 14 Kameraden dem Aufruf nach Velten. Das tat der Spiellaune der Anwesenden aber keine Abbruch. Nach dem Anpfiff durch Schiri East legte unser Team gleich munter los und konnte durch einen Angriff über die ¾ Reihe den 1. Versuch des Spieles verbuchen.
